The XL-07 ship from the Lightyear Hyperspeed reminds me of a particular Hoth vehicle. So I turned it into a modernized version of the classic one.
Before and after
Incom T-50 Airspeeder
Type: Repulsorlift airspeeder
Affiliation: Rebel Alliance
Manufacturer: Incom Corporation
Armament: 2 forward laser cannons
Crew: 1 pilot (civilian version) / 1 pilot, 1 gunner (modified Rebel version)
The famous T-47 airspeeder and its successor, the T-50.
The performance of the T-47 airspeeder in the Battle of Hoth was noted everywhere. As sales of the famous vehicle soared galaxy-wide, Incom Corporation planned its successor: the T-50.
The next-gen model has a better top speed, higher flight ceiling, and longer operational range. To ensure success, they turned to someone who has actually used it combat for advice: Luke Skywalker
Luke requested a tighter turning radius, since the older model needed wide sweeping turns. Incom obliged by replacing the flaps with outboard winglets to improve cornering. They also added thrust vectoring nozzles in the rear to further improve maneuverability.
Luke’s valuable input resulted in a more maneuverable airspeeder
Luke’s other suggestion involved safety: the T-47 was hard to evacuate during a mishap. He nearly lost his life trying to retrieve his dead tail gunner. As such, the T-50 was given a detachable crew capsule. Instead of ejection seats, the entire cockpit would eject in light of Luke’s experience. An escape capsule also gives pilots a better survival rate in higher ejection altitudes and in harsher worlds like Hoth.
In case of emergency, the entire cockpit separates from the speeder to give pilots a higher chance of survival.
After 6 prototypes, the first production T-50, Ship # 07, given to Luke, which he named Dak-07. As with all Incom products, the first batch of airspeeders were conveniently “lost” in transit, to be found by the Alliance. In fact, Rebel techs are already hard at work to arm the speeder and add a gunner position.
My license and registration? But its brand new officer, I’m just…. delivering it.
