The nose of the XL-03 ship from Mattel’s Lightyear Hyperspeed line looks like a shortened X-wing. And it scales well with MGS.
So I decided to turn it into a basic Alliance snubfighter to rival the Imperial TIE fighter!
Before and after
Incom T-67 T-Wing
Type: Basic starfighter
Affiliation: New Republic
Manufacturer: Incom Corporation
Armament: 2 forward laser cannons
Engine: Novaldex J-77 engine (derived from the A-wing)
Shield generator: Chempat deflector shield generator (same as the X-wing)
Crew: 1 pilot
As the Rebellion became the New Republic, it found itself needing thousands of starfighters. Unlike the Imperial TIE fighter, T-65 X-wings were too complex and expensive for mass procurement.
In response, Incom Corporation created the T-67 T-Wing, a simplified version of the venerable X-wing. With only 2 laser cannons and a single engine, it was designed to be cheaper, faster to produce, and simpler to maintain. It retained the same cockpit and parts as the X-wing for easier training and logistics.
Instead of using S-foils to dump waste heat during combat, the T-67 used a large dorsal fin to radiate the heat. The 4 engine intakes of the X-wing were reduced to 2 in the T-wing, but these intakes were widened for higher flow.
The X-wing and the simpler T-wing. With no hyperdrive, no S-foils, only 2 laser cannons and a single engine, it was Incom’s answer to mass produced TIEs.
The T-wing had only one engine, but it was the first Incom fighter to use thrust vectoring.
The pilot can divert thrust from the main engine to two nozzle banks on the wings. This allowed for incredibly agile maneuvers, at the expense of forward speed.
Like the TIE, T-wings lacked hyperdrives since they are designed to deploy from capital ships and orbital defense platforms. This enabled it to be smaller, so more fighters can be carried by Mon Calamari cruisers.
However, the T-wing did retain one important part from the X-wing: a strong shield generator. Because unlike the Empire, the New Republic cares about its pilots, even for its mass produced fighters.
Where to Buy
This ship is part of Mattel’s Lightyear Hyperspeed line, which is similar in scale to MGS (thought the figures are bigger).
The XL-03 ship is available on Amazon for under $10. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, so please do support this site!
