Our very own fellow MGS fan Katie Gia recently interviewed Max Luxwell on her podcast, the Khaos Council, on June 6.
The 9th episode of her podcast also saw co-hosts Mack and Chooch grilling Max for Micro Galaxy secrets for 1.5 hours. So without further ado, let’s get down to it.
Let’s lead off the with the question I submitted to Katie (Thank you Katie!):
Does each Micro Galaxy class have a specific box size they have to fit in?
“Yes. We sell them as part of an assortment. In order for us to make sure they fit an assortment on the shelf and they don’t bump into the pegs below, the blister depth must be equal on all the vehicles. That also allows them to nest properly in the master carton, preventing damage during shipment.”
As an example, Max showed off the Series 4 Landspeeder in its retail packaging for the first time.
It had the exact same blister depth as the Series 3 FO TIE, despite being much smaller.
Max: “That being said, we could potentially look into reducing the size of our packaging volume in the future. Or switch to a different form of packaging where the buyer assembles the vehicle. But we’re just looking into it at this point. As example, the upcoming Lambda shuttle has all the wings removed to make it fit in the Starship class packaging” (a step up from the one removed wing of the LAAT and the detached mandibles of the Scythe.)
This leads on to our next bombshell for the interview:
Are there any plans for post-Series 7?
We’re in the development process right now, and post-Series 7 is spring 2025. Right now we’re figuring out what ships to do, and syncing with Lucasfilm.
If all goes according to plan, we’re going to have a new size class for fall 2024 called the Dreadnaught Class. That’s all I’m saying.
Any updates on international distribution?
Sales is working on getting out US exclusives internationally as quickly as possible. But they’re very busy with roadshows right now and talking to distributors so I wasn’t able to get an update in time for this interview.
What I can say is allegedly, Podracer battlepacks are going to trickle into US Walmarts right now.
How’s the direct to consumer model?
It’s happening. It will answer all your questions and concerns about the rares, chases, etc. That’s all I can say.
Co-host Mack asked about what other Jedi starfighters we’re going to get.
Max:
- Mace Windu in his interceptor. It was actually a mid-development change because the team thought it would be a Delta 7
- Kit Fisto in Delta 7b
- Plo Koon in Delta 7b
A related tangent on re-releases:
“I’ve been trying to figure out a way to re-release some vehicles, especially the ones that’s hard to find. And it all comes down to how I can put them in a box set with increased deco. Unfortunately in Plo Koon’s case, he wasn’t shot down by 2 V-wings. He was shot down by 2 ARC-170s, which would be a gigantic box set.”
Is there potential for Jedi: Fallen Order ships?
There’s always potential for game-based vehicles, especially since they are blowing up in popularity.
When you talk to LFL, are there restrictions like canon only, is legends up for grabs, etc?
From a relevancy standpoint, we want the ships to sell. As super fans, we may want ships like the Myst Hunter or Dengar’s ship, but we have to do vehicles from a playability perspective. We focus on ships that help us recoup the sizable expenses. Bonus points if there are redeco opportunities.
From a restrictions standpoint, there’s been times like “Let’s not focus on that ship because we know it’s not going to be relevant.” They know what their consumers want since they have tons of analytics and the best marketing minds on the planet.
But we haven’t had any really hard no’s. The fact that we have Durge on the line, as well as the Muunilist gunship, and obscure starfighters like (the upcoming) Vader’s Sith interceptor that appears in one comic.
Co-host Cooch gushed about Ahsoka’s ship, which is her favorite in the MGS line. She wondered if she can ever get one without hunting for the rare.
It will be coming later this year as an Amazon exclusive. Here’s a prototype. The interceptor has increased deco compared to the chase. The Delta 7b is all new.
The name has changed from “Ahsoka Tano’s Jedi Starfighter Evolution” box set to “Ahsoka Tano’s Starfighter Set”. It will be available for Amazon preorder.
Co-host Mack asked about possibilities for the Twilight ship:
Do you realize how big it is? Do you realize how much of the budget that would it and take away from other cool ships we could do?
Max’s sign-off:
- MGS will also be available on Gamestop come fall
- Keep an eye out for preorders for the Endor AT-AT and Ahsoka’s Starfighter set, coming soon.
- Keep an eye out for announcements regarding Jazware’s direct to consumer sales.
- For those going to SDCC, drop by our booth in July and pick up one of our amazing Comic-con exclusives which I will rapidly flash by the camera.
