A Closer Look at Wave 5 Preproduction Samples

Disney-oriented blog The Laughing Place has an in-depth look at the engineering samples for MGS Wave 5.

The preproduction samples were shown at the end of Jazware’s panel discussion during the last day of Star Wars Celebration Europe. In it, we can see the U-wing, V-19 Torrent, and First Order Elite TIE.

The U-wing and FO TIE seem to be devoid of any weathering, a direction that Jazwares has been taking with their recent waves. The V-19 has a light wash to accentuate the panel lines of the wings. It should be noted that these are pre-production units and may still be different from the final ships.

A second shot shows the B-wing, Geonosian starfighter, Desert skiff, and Cloud Car.

The B-wing seems to be slightly undersized and has a landing gear that differs from the Action Fleet and Bandai versions. It also has slimmer side wings than Action Fleet.

However, it seems to be missing the bottom laser cannon, and only possesses the ion cannon. But this is a preproduction sample.

The Nantex-class Geonosian fighter looks to have insect-like tricycle landing pads similar to the Neimodian shuttle.

This differs from the 3.75 inch version that has fixed landing gears molded in place.

The skiff, lacking any landing pads, comes with a stand and what looks to be positionable vanes. It has much more accurate proportions and railings, and the correct center pedestal.

However, it remains to be seen whether it will have the same extendable gang-plank on the right side as the Action Fleet version.

Finally, the Bespin Cloud Car seems to have a slimmer and more screen-accurate connecting boom and engine intake compared to Action Fleet.

However, a curious bulge at the front may point to a front-hinged cockpit. This is not present in the movie version, or the Action Fleet, which is rear-hinged. From the cut line, it seems the entire cupola lifts up, not just the upper part of the cockpit.

That Geonosian fighter is a welcome surprise. Glad they’re doing even relatively obscure ships

That skiff looks dope next to AF. Much much better

If you look more closely to the right of the barge you’ll notice what looks like a protrusion that could be the plank!

Sharp eye EJ! I wonder if it retracts though, seeing how thin the Skiff’s body is
